America’s “sport of dogs” calendar barely takes a weekend off. Somewhere between a coastal surf contest for dogs and a Thanksgiving television tradition that pulls in millions of viewers, there’s a pet-friendly festival happening almost every week of the year. Whether you’re an Indian dog parent who’s relocated to the US, planning a trip and want to build a dog-friendly detour into it, or you simply enjoy following the show-dog world from home, this guide rounds up the major American dog events for 2026 and into early 2027, organized state by state so you can find what’s near you.
A few things worth knowing before you plan around any of these:
- DailyPaws isn’t affiliated with, and doesn’t organize, any event listed below — this is a travel-planning reference, put together from official event pages and organizer announcements.
- Small local festivals routinely shift their dates, prices, and even venues from one year to the next, sometimes with only a few months’ notice. Always confirm details on the organizer’s own site before booking travel.
- Where a listed date has already passed this year, we’ve noted the event’s usual season instead, so you know when to watch for the next edition.
The Big Four National Dog Events
These are the events every dog lover has probably heard of, even outside the US. Unlike the hundreds of small city festivals below, dates for these are set well in advance by national organizations, so we’ve double-checked each one directly.
Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show — January 30–February 2, 2027, New York City
Running continuously since 1877, Westminster is the second-oldest sporting event in the US and the dog world’s answer to a major championship final. The 151st edition takes daytime breed and agility competition to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, while evening group judging and the Best in Show final move to Madison Square Garden on February 2. For the first time in the show’s history, Netflix will stream the evening rounds live worldwide, alongside the club’s own broadcast partners — a notable shift for an event that used to be strictly cable-TV territory. If your dog training interests run toward the disciplined, precise style you’ll see in Westminster’s agility ring, it’s worth reading up on positive reinforcement training methods — the same reward-based approach many of these competitors are built on.
The National Dog Show — November 14–15, 2026, Oaks (Philadelphia), PA
Hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, this is America’s only single-venue “benched” dog show, meaning the competing dogs stay in public view between rounds so visitors can walk up and meet them. Saturday’s judging is taped for the NBC broadcast that airs nationally every Thanksgiving Day (November 26, 2026) right after the Macy’s Parade, making it the most-watched dog show in the country even though most of its audience never sets foot in Pennsylvania. Note that spectator pets aren’t allowed inside — only the competing purebreds. Expect to see crowd favorites like the Golden Retriever well represented in the Sporting Group judging.
AKC National Championship presented by Royal Canin — December 12–13, 2026, Orlando, FL
The largest all-breed dog show in North America returns to the Orange County Convention Center, bringing together thousands of dogs from the US and abroad across conformation, agility, obedience, and Junior Showmanship. The American Kennel Club recently announced a new “AKC National Champion” title that will be awarded to whichever dog takes Best in Show here — a first for the organization, and a sign of how much weight this event now carries in the sport.
AKC Meet the Breeds — Javits Center, New York City
This is the AKC’s hands-on answer to a dog show: instead of watching from the stands, visitors walk a hall of booths and meet more than 100 breeds in person, talk to owners and breed clubs, and get a feel for temperament and grooming needs before deciding what might suit their own household. It’s typically held over a weekend in early February — the most recent edition ran February 7–8 — but the American Kennel Club hadn’t published confirmed 2027 dates at the time of writing, so check akc.org closer to the date. If you’re at the stage of narrowing down which breed fits your life, our own guide to choosing a dog breed in India covers many of the same questions AKC volunteers get asked at these booths — climate tolerance, exercise needs, apartment suitability, and grooming commitment.

Getting the Most Out of a Dog-Friendly Event
A few practical notes if you’re actually planning to attend one of these with your own dog in tow:
- Practice leash manners before you go. Expos and street festivals are loud, crowded, and full of other excited dogs — not the place to discover your dog pulls hard toward every stranger. If leash-pulling is still a work in progress, our leash training guide covers the basics well before event day.
- Groom a few days ahead, not the morning of. A quick brush-out and nail check the week before travel means one less thing to manage at a crowded venue — our at-home grooming routine guide walks through a simple pre-trip routine.
- If you’re road-tripping to an event, get your dog comfortable in the crate first. Long drives are far calmer with a dog that already treats its crate as a safe space rather than a new experience sprung on it at the worst possible time — see our step-by-step crate training guide.
- Check the weather and travel logistics before you commit. Several of these events fall in peak summer heat. Our guide to traveling with pets, while written with Indian summers in mind, covers heat-safety basics — water breaks, shaded rest stops, never leaving a dog in a parked car — that apply just as much on a hot August afternoon in Arizona or Florida.
- Read the fine print on “dog-friendly.” Several major shows on this list — the National Dog Show, the AKC National Championship, and the Great American Dog Show among them — do not allow spectator pets inside, even though the event itself is about dogs. Always check before you pack the leash.
A Final Note
Dates above reflect the most recent information available from each event’s official channels as of publication, but small festivals are run by small teams, and plans change. Bookmark the organizer pages linked above, or simply search the event name closer to your travel dates, before finalizing any trip. If a favorite local dog event of yours isn’t on this list, most of these organizers welcome tips — and so do we, if you know of one worth adding.
